Benchmarking Levels

Since robot hands are highly complex systems, we benchmark them at four levels based on the complexity of the system under test. Benchmarks for robot hands serve two purposes:

  1. To track performance progress as new hand technology is created.
  2. To provide actionable feedback to robot hand designers.

Performance, evaluated using benchmarks in simulation and real-world testing, can provide direct feedback to hand designers. Feedback can also be performance through performance sensitivity analysis: understanding how design choices affect system-level dexterity.
